When your vehicle is not useful anymore, you will need to get rid of it. Of course, you cannot leave it at any random place. You need to take it to an authorised treatment facility.
We can help you with the entire process of disposing of your vehicle.
In general, it involves:
1. Finding an authorised treatment facility
2. Taking the registration number off the vehicle (only if you prefer)
3. Turning the vehicle log book (V5C) in to the ATF
4. Getting a “certificate of destruction” from them
5. Informing the DVLA that you have written off the vehicle
6. Getting a confirmation stating that you are no longer responsible for the vehicle
In case you want to take some parts of the vehicle to keep them as future replacements or to sell them, you have to follow the same process. But before the first step, you have to notify the DVLA that the vehicle is off the road and then take the pieces you want to keep.
It is important to make sure that your name is no longer linked to the vehicle. Otherwise, if something happens with the vehicle, you will be responsible. Thus, it is very dangerous and illegal to choose a non-authorised treatment facility.
